6. Join a Group or Align with a Pillar
There are a growing number of funding opportunities for projects that are multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, or transdisciplinary in nature. To achieve efficiency, reduce duplication, and speed up results, funders are shifting their focus from individuals to research teams. Thus, new faculty should consider joining institutional research interest groups or FAU’s Pillars, to help you find like-minded colleagues, identify mentors, and provide a framework for collaborative research proposals. These groups are often surrogates for collaborations and partnerships across university colleges, departments, and disciplines, as well as multi-institutional initiatives at the regional or national level.
